UCA: UNIVERSITY OF CREATIVE ARTS
Alternate Shadows was approached by Charlotte Aylett in her third year final project for her degree; BA HONS Design for Theatre, Film and Performance. She was looking for various characters and Alternate Shadow member Felim McCarthy fitted the bill nicely.
Charlotte Aylett's re-imagining of "By the Coast of Coromandel” (a radio play by Lavinia Murray, which explores the nonsense & creativity of the life & works of Victorian Poet, Edward Lear) looked to cast the characters in the text as members of our retired community. It draws links between the issues of loneliness, mortality & mental illness in the text, & the same issues which many older members of our society face on a daily basis.
Charlotte graduated summer 2019, her first industry job was a freelance dresser
for The Birmingham Royal Ballet, at the Royal Albert Hall on the `Nutcracker'.
She then landed a permanent role as the Costume Assistant at The Young Vic Theatre, London.
